A Double Bill Of Gilbert & Sullivan At Stamford’s Corn Exchange Theatre

It would be remiss of me not to point out to you that there is a wonderful evening in store at Stamford’s Corn Exchange Theatre from October 7-10 at 7-30 pm each evening with a matinee on Saturday at 2-30 pm.

The Stamford Gilbert & Sullivan Players will be performing “Trial By Jury” and “HMS Pinafore” and as if that isn’t enough between the two Operas there will be dancing from the highly acclaimed Welland School of Dance.

TRIAL BY JURY is a short 30 minute opera. It is a satire in which the librettist, Gilbert, sought to demonstrate the shortcomings of the Judiciary.  The case is one of Breach of Promise of Marriage and we are soon to discover that the Learned Judge (played by North Luffenham’s own Ian Ferguson) has some previous that makes it inappropriate that he should preside over such a case

HMS PINAFORE.  Here the satire is aimed at the Navy.  In the late 1880s W H Smith the bookseller was appointed First Lord of The Admiralty. There was Public outcry that a man with no naval experience should get such a post. Of course it wouldn’t happen today?  With the names changed this Opera is based around that scenario.  On this ship there is the ‘Baddy’ sailor which is played by Ian Ferguson of North Luffenham.

Both Operas contain delightful Music and a lot of fun. Not to be missed.

Tickets ranging from £11-50 to £13-50 (children £6) can be obtained from the box office on (01780) 766455
