Concert in Oakham SUNDAY DECEMBER 9TH at 7.30PM
Oakham School Chapel.
The Armed Man A mass for peace by Karl Jenkins
Performed by Oakham choral society; this is a modern work written in 2000 to mark the end of the war in Kosovo. It is a fitting end to this centenary year of the end of the Great War.
If you do not like choral works, this is a bit different. Some beautiful harmonies with exciting use of drums and brass instruments to paint a musical picture of the build up t o battle , the horrors of battle and its aftermath with a plea for peace.
It is worth a listen .
Tickets available from Walkers Bookshop ( Oakham ) or on the door on the night.
A sum of money was last night somewhere in the village. If found please could you contact a parish councillor or Tim Smith on 01780 360083

This year on 11th November 2018 it will be the centenary of the ending of the Great War after which the poppy became the symbol of Remembrance.
To mark this there are many schemes using poppies.
Here in the village , our Rector, Pippa would like a scheme for knitting/ crocheting poppies for a Cascade of flowers outside the church. This should be beautiful provided enough poppies are made! This project will be spearheaded by Fay Cummings and further details will follow after Easter.
In Oakham, it is hoped to replicate a version from the Tower of London with clay poppies at the castle.
I would like to set up an opportunity in the village for the clay poppy scheme ( open to men, women and older children ) and hope this would be one Saturday in June.
Apparently during a session of about 2 hours , it takes each person about 15 MINUTES to make a poppy. These will then be taken away for firing. All tuition is given. Artistic talent not needed.
Cost is zero although donations are welcome.
I need about 20 expressions of interest to set this up.
So if you would be interested please contact me by email : hilary.daintith@gmail.com

Your chance to have a say on the Village Plan:
When: Thursday 25th January at 7.00 pm.
Where: Community Centre
Residents did indicate in the survey that they would be willing to volunteer for schemes such as Neighbourhood Watch so this will be an opportunity to ‘sign up’.
The Village Plan survey offered a prize for a meal for two at The Fox and everybody who did the survey was invited to enter a telephone number. The draw took place at The Fox and the winning number was drawn by one of the bar staff.
Myra was the lucky winner and decided to have lunch with a friend.
They had an enjoyable meal.
(The Steering Group for the Village Survey are grateful to Jason Allen, landlord of The Fox, for providing the prize).
A reminder that there will be a presentation of the results of the Village Survey at 7 pm on Thursday 25th January in the Community Centre.
The Village Survey has been written up and if you look to right you will see a link that takes you to the report and perhaps something to read over the holiday period.
Feedback and comments welcomed.
There will be a presentation in the Community Centre of the survey on Thursday 25th January 2018 at 7pm.
And finally: The Prize Draw Entry: this is for the two course meal and a bottle of house wine at The Fox: the draw will take place at The Fox on 21st December at 7pm in the upstairs room.
