The Armed Man A mass for peace by Karl Jenkins
Performed by Oakham choral society; this is a modern work written in 2000 to mark the end of the war in Kosovo. It is a fitting end to this centenary year of the end of the Great War.
If you do not like choral works, this is a bit different. Some beautiful harmonies with exciting use of drums and brass instruments to paint a musical picture of the build up t o battle , the horrors of battle and its aftermath with a plea for peace.
It is worth a listen .
Tickets available from Walkers Bookshop ( Oakham ) or on the door on the night.

The event is aimed at community organisations, groups, charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises. The conference will help you continue to support people and places in Rutland, and to work in partnership to help to shape a resilient, well and prosperous Rutland.

This conference is being organised by the Rutland Wellbeing Service which helps Rutland citizens to improve their personal health and wellbeing and the overall welfare of the community.

Rutland Poppy Project
There is a session of poppy making in our village this Saturday, 16th June, at the Community Centre, from 2 pm to 4.30 pm. No need to bring anything. Please come along with friends and family. All welcome.

The Rutland Community Wellbeing Service has organised four events for local voluntary organisations and community groups. These free short events (no longer than a half day) are intended to provide some initial awareness of topics that may affect local groups.
The events and dates are:
Lone Worker Safety – Afternoon of 18th June 2018
Trustee Roles and Responsibilities – Afternoon of 25th June 2018
Environmental Impact of your group – Morning of 28th June 2018
Safeguarding – Morning of 17th July 2018

SUMMER FETE – BARROWDEN – starts at 12.00, 30th June. Lots of family fun on the village green ; BBQ, Pimms, traditional fete stalls; classic cars. Battle of Britain Flypast est. 12.45. Plus the renowned Duck Race on the pond.
Proceeds to St Peter’s Church and village groups.
Police Recruitment Campaign
As a valued member of the community I am writing to you to share details of our current recruitment campaign. I would like to take this opportunity to ask that you promote this within your communities and encourage those interested in a career with us to attend one of the seminars.We are welcoming applicants aged 18-57 from all sections of the community; however we are particularly keen to hear from women and members of minority ethnic groups, so that the force reflects it communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.The recruitment seminars will be held across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland throughout May and into early June. Those attending will have the opportunity to find out first-hand what it is like to be a police officer and more about the recruitment process. The concert originally for March 4th was cancelled because of the adverse weather. It has been rescheduled for Sunday 29th April. Tickets bought previously will be valid and can also be obtained on the night.
POPPIES FOR REMEMBRANCE
This year on 11th November 2018 it will be the centenary of the ending of the Great War after which the poppy became the symbol of Remembrance.
To mark this there are many schemes using poppies.
Here in the village , our Rector, Pippa would like a scheme for knitting/ crocheting poppies for a Cascade of flowers outside the church. This should be beautiful provided enough poppies are made! This project will be spearheaded by Fay Cummings and further details will follow after Easter.
In Oakham, it is hoped to replicate a version from the Tower of London with clay poppies at the castle.
I would like to set up an opportunity in the village for the clay poppy scheme ( open to men, women and older children ) and hope this would be one Saturday in June.
Apparently during a session of about 2 hours , it takes each person about 15 MINUTES to make a poppy. These will then be taken away for firing. All tuition is given. Artistic talent not needed.
Cost is zero although donations are welcome.
I need about 20 expressions of interest to set this up.

When: Thursday 25th January at 7.00 pm.
Where: Community Centre
Residents did indicate in the survey that they would be willing to volunteer for schemes such as Neighbourhood Watch so this will be an opportunity to ‘sign up’.
Prize giving for Village Plan Survey submissions
The Village Plan survey offered a prize for a meal for two at The Fox and everybody who did the survey was invited to enter a telephone number. The draw took place at The Fox and the winning number was drawn by one of the bar staff.
Myra was the lucky winner and decided to have lunch with a friend.
They had an enjoyable meal.

A reminder that there will be a presentation of the results of the Village Survey at 7 pm on Thursday 25th January in the Community Centre.
