2/2/16 – Theft from unattended motor vehicle – Empingham road, Ketton
2/2/16 – Burglary other than dwelling (shed) – Church lane, Glaston
Our current Problem Solving Plans are tackling burglary related crime in Ketton and also hare coursing along the corridor villages along the A47.
There has been an increase in reports of hare coursing in the past 2 weeks around the Wing to Glaston area and the Barrowden to Seaton area.
We are carrying out high visibility patrols in all the above locations to target offenders & liaising with neighbouring forces. Currently there is a matrix warning sign on Luffenham road, Ketton warning motorists of police operations in the area.
As you can see from the above crime for the last month, there have been 4 shed breaks. Please review your home security and if you need any advice, please feel free to contact me.
Remember we currently sell padlock alarms for £8.50, which would be ideal for a shed.

One of the recurring topics highlighted to the Parish Council is the issue of vehicles speeding in the village environs.
The Parish Council is working on this problem in several ways:
These activities are dependent on factors such as agreement from Rutland County Council, and funding.
One “self help” action the village could undertake without any dependency on other organisations would be to set up a Community Speed Watch organisation.
This would enable members of the village population to be trained in the use of a speed gun, and the loan of a calibrated speed gun for a specific period of time.
The idea is that the trained village volunteers can use the speed gun to check the speeds of vehicles within the village over a period of time, and report details of vehicles found to be over the relevant limit to the Police. The Police will then potentially send letters to the drivers of the vehicles warning them that they were observed exceeding the speed limit.
In order to start a scheme such as this, proof is needed that at least 20% of the village population support the suggestion for the scheme, and between 6 and 16 people are willing to actively participate in the vehicle checks. 20% of the North Luffenham population would be 130 people.
I would like to gauge the level of interest in such a scheme for North Luffenham – as speeding is a recurring topic, I’m assuming people would be all for it 🙂
If you think its something worth pursuing, could you please email me at pete.burrows@northluffenham.com – if it looks like we can hit the target of 130 people supporting a scheme, we can start the process of registering, gathering the formal interest documents from the people who are interested, and look to have the scheme implemented this year.
More information on the scheme can be found here:

The aviation enthusiasts amongst you will be aware of the last flying Vulcan bomber, known as XH558.
This has been kept flying for the last few years by a private charity, based at Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster.
2015 is the last year it will be able to fly, due to the difficulties in continuing the required support for a complex aircraft.
The Vulcan will be undertaking a “last hurrah” flight around the UK this weekend. The Southern loop of this flight will take place on Sunday, 11th October, and will include Rutland Water as a waypoint on the trip around the country.
There will be no display as such, but it will be overhead the reservoir for a period of time
Timings are still to be confirmed, but further details can be found on the Vulcan Trusts website.
It would be remiss of me not to point out to you that there is a wonderful evening in store at Stamford’s Corn Exchange Theatre from October 7-10 at 7-30 pm each evening with a matinee on Saturday at 2-30 pm.
The Stamford Gilbert & Sullivan Players will be performing “Trial By Jury” and “HMS Pinafore” and as if that isn’t enough between the two Operas there will be dancing from the highly acclaimed Welland School of Dance.
TRIAL BY JURY is a short 30 minute opera. It is a satire in which the librettist, Gilbert, sought to demonstrate the shortcomings of the Judiciary. The case is one of Breach of Promise of Marriage and we are soon to discover that the Learned Judge (played by North Luffenham’s own Ian Ferguson) has some previous that makes it inappropriate that he should preside over such a case
HMS PINAFORE. Here the satire is aimed at the Navy. In the late 1880s W H Smith the bookseller was appointed First Lord of The Admiralty. There was Public outcry that a man with no naval experience should get such a post. Of course it wouldn’t happen today? With the names changed this Opera is based around that scenario. On this ship there is the ‘Baddy’ sailor which is played by Ian Ferguson of North Luffenham.
Both Operas contain delightful Music and a lot of fun. Not to be missed.
Tickets ranging from £11-50 to £13-50 (children £6) can be obtained from the box office on (01780) 766455
The Cricket Club will be will be holding an Open Day in conjunction with their annual “Lads vs Dads” cricket match on Sunday 13th September
Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy a fun afternoon on the Oval – it would make a great village day out in conjunction with the Garden Club show, and an excellent opportunity to see what the Cricket Club is about, and what goes on there – you might even be lent a bat to try out the new nets.
There will be a barbecue and the club have obtained a licence for the afternoon and will be selling wine, soft drinks & beer from the pavilion
A Sweet & ice cream stall should be present, and also some fun games.
Lewis Hill from Leicestershire County Cricket Club will be joining us for an hour at around 3.30 – 4.30 to help with the award presentations.
Hope to see you there on Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately the Village Working Party scheduled for Saturday 12th September has been postponed, a new date will be published as soon as it is known.
Apologies to all those who were planning to take part
Hi
the Village Working Party day scheduled for Saturday 12th September has had to be postponed.
Apologies to all those who were looking forward to a therapeutic tidy up
Have you ever looked around the village and thought, “I wonder who tidied that up”, or seen an area that was becoming a bit bedraggled and thought “someone needs to sort that out, I wonder who looks after it”
The answer on both occasions is quite possibly the village working party – a group of volunteers who gather when necessary to tidy up some of the less loved corners of the village and maintain some of the nicer spots we appreciate
Next opportunity to take part in this social activity will be on Saturday 12th September, and so if you are happy to undertake some basic maintenance – weeding, painting, litter picking etc to help maintain the look of North Luffenham, and have some time you are willing to donate on the day, then contact Charles Cade or meet at the Cricket Pavillion at 9am on the Saturday morning.
Last Wednesday – 25th June – North Luffenham Under 11 team scored a fine win in the local derby against Ketton – highlight of the match was a hat trick (3 wickets in 3 consecutive balls for those not fully conversant with cricket terminology) for Ellen Marson, which helped to limit Ketton to a total of 167 runs – 37 runs less than they needed to beat Luffenhams total of 204 -well done Ellen!
As its looking like a pleasant evening you may be interested in wandering up to the Oval to support North Luffenham in their Tuesday evening Burrough League Home match vs Great Dalby – start is 18:30, maybe see you there
Those of you who were there on the evening will already know that North Luffenham won 🙂
The Parish Council are reviewing the annual bonfire and firework display and is canvassing the village to obtain opinions on the event and input on how it may be improved.
A reminder if you have been intending to complete the online survey, or return the paper versions that were distributed throughout the village, is that the closing date is 25th June.
To enable us to take your views into account, you can click on the link to complete the online Firework Survey . Paper surveys can be returned to The Fox or 11 Digby Drive
Waterloo 200 was celebrated in North Luffenham with a peal of bells followed by a Village Picnic and a Concert given by Stamford Brass.
On Saturday 20th June the Church Bells rang out to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. Later some 80 North Luffenham Residents and their Guests gathered on God’s Acre in front of the Church for a Picnic and a concert to be given by Stamford Brass to raise funds for the Church Roof Repairs.
After some showers during the afternoon the clouds cleared and and beautiful evening sky promised a great night ahead. The first half of the concert was fabulous with the champagne flowing and everyone singing along to The White Cliffs of Dover and other well known tunes. During the interval however the clouds swept in and the raffle was accompanied by great claps of thunder. The Band broke into ‘Singing in the Rain’ and with Bulldog spirit everyone joined in by singing and dancing in the rain, but with that the Heavens opened and after a final rendition of the Radetsky March – stumps were drawn and the evening came to an abrupt end. In brief a very British night – thoroughly enjoyed by all.
With thanks to Jason Allen in The Fox for his support and thanks to Stamford Brass for a great performance in very difficult conditions. Overall a successful night, notwithstanding the storm, and in the end almost £1,000 raised for the Church Roof Fund and Stamford Brass

The Parish Council are reviewing the annual bonfire and firework display and is canvassing the village to obtain opinions on the event and input on how it may be improved. We have already sought feedback from a number of residents following the displays of the last 2 years.
As a result of this, we anticipate using fewer rockets in the display, in favour of alternative fireworks. This will reduce the risk of high winds affecting the display and increase control over the direction taken by individual fireworks.
We intend to manage the bonfire more carefully this year and make good the damage to the grass as quickly as possible post the display.
We would be grateful if you would spend a few minutes completing the questions in the Firework Survey to enable us to take your views into account.
***This survey is now closed***
