The Good Companions Club is arranging a weekly “winter warmer drop in” at the Community Centre during the winter period, starting from Thursday 12th January, and thereafter every Thursday through to the 2nd March, between 1pm and 3pm. We want to offer somewhere warm and inviting for anyone that wants to come along, with the promise of free tea/coffee/cake…and a great way to enjoy the company of fellow villagers. If you have a jigsaw puzzle or reading books you’d like to swap, play cards and board games, or simply to spend a couple of hours in a warm place… it’s entirely up to you. All are welcome, just come along on the day.
For anyone that would be willing to volunteer in helping out it would be hugely appreciated, please speak to Alison on 07769 322551 for more details.
There will be a Remembrance service at St John the Baptist church on Sunday 13th November, at 10:45 am in the churchyard. Graham Madgwick will lead the service, and a bugler from the Army will be in attendance
The annual Bonfire & Fireworks event hosted by North Luffenham Parish Council will be held on The Oval on Saturday 5th November 2022.
Doors Open 5.45pm; Bonfire lit 6.15pm; Fireworks 6.30pm
The Cricket Club will be running the BBQ (to raise funds to continue the good works on the wicket); Janet Whittaker & Judy Cade will be offering hot & cold refreshments from the Pavilion with home-made seasonal cake; Lin Burrows will be serving her specially prepared Mulled Wine with added Glo Sticks and sparklers. Charles Cade & Pete Burrows are in charge of lighting the fire & fireworks.
Our Chair of the Parish Council – Tim Smith – will be co-ordinating the important task of the ‘Donation bucket collection’. All this helps to offset the costs so please be generous to enable this event to continue. Please bring cash for the donations as it is difficult to set up card readers in the middle of a dark Oval!
Whilst The Scouts will be sporting high vis jackets and stewarding the perimeter and entry points, more volunteers are needed on the night to assist with ensuring a safe and enjoyable evening.
If you can help, please contact any of the above teams or Charles Cade on 01780 720467.
Thank you 😉
From Deb King: A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our MacMillan Coffee Morning last Friday. We raised £405! Whether you popped in for a cuppa, baked a cake, or dropped an envelope in – thank you. This amount helps to provide 2 days care from a MacMillan nurse.
Special thanks to helpers, Daphne, Ann and Margaret who did a fantastic job.
If you would like to make a contribution – there’s still time. You can donate online at the following webpage –
Just a reminder that the consultation period for the North Luffenham Neighbourhood Plan will end on Tuesday, October 4th, and so you only have a couple of days left to comment.
There are already responses that potentially will result in alterations to the Plan, and so do not feel that the plan is a “Done Deal”, the Parish Council values your input and will assess all input before finalising the plan and submitting it to RCC and the Official Inspector.
The Plan and supporting documents, plus the online form for responses and comments can be found here:
For those of you missing the local information and characters of Rutland Radio after it was absorbed into Greatest Hits Radio, you may not be aware that Rob Persani and the team started an Internet Radio station – Rutland and Stamford Sound.
This is available over the Internet, via their web site, a mobile phone app, and via Alexa and other smart speakers.
You can find more information at their web site : https://www.rutlandandstamfordsound.co.uk/
Just a reminder that the final display and opportunity to ask questions around the Draft Neighbourhood Plan for North Luffenham will take place tomorrow, Wednesday from 14:30 to 16:30 at the Community Centre
Hi – Phone services have returned in North Luffenham, is anyone still having issues?
We have some information provided by a Barrowden resident with an update directly from the OpenReach engineers working on the phone lines:
“I’ve been to see the Openreach engineers working at the end of Morcott Road this morning and thought I would share with you what they told me by way of an update.
There is positive news in that they are starting to make connections but it’s a long and painstaking process. They can’t tell which phone numbers are in various core cables but are working through making them all live, consequently phone numbers will start to come on stream from now but completion of the work will take a number of days.
Although they couldn’t give me an end date for the work, they did confirm the job is still considered urgent and they will continue to work on it over the weekend.
It feels as if we are making progress.”
You may already have noticed but posting to let people know that the landlines are down in the village again…
As you will be aware the North Luffenham Neighbourhood Plan Working Group of the Parish Council have been developing the Neighbourhood Plan document, Planning Policies and background evidence for the North Luffenham Neighbourhood Plan.
The Plan and Policies are now at the point where the residents of the Parish have the opportunity to review and comment on the draft (the official status is “Pre Submission”) plan.
You should have received details about the plan, and the consultation, via a leaflet drop.
The consultation period starts Tuesday 23rd August, and you can find the details of the consultation period, a downloadable copy of the draft plan, along with supporting documents on the Neighbourhood Plan page on the web site.
There is also a link to the online form for you to enter your views
https://northluffenham.com/nlpc/neighbourhood-plan/
This is your chance to provide feedback, and influence the plan. Once this consultation period completes, Rutland County Council will run a wider review, however this will be mainly around the legalities and background evidence for the plan – they will not comment on the actual planning policies in the plan, unless there are errors or unenforceable statements included in the text.
Please take this opportunity to provide your input. The Plan will be part of the decision making process for all planning applications submitted in North Luffenham Parish until 2036, and so it is very important that it accurately reflects the overall views of the residents.
The current outage of the telephone system in North Luffenham has been confirmed to be caused by theft of the copper cables from the Telephone Exchange on Ketton Road to the villages.
Internet services are not affected as they are carried by fibre optic cable from the Exchange to the villages, and only use copper cable from the green cabinets on the streets.
Various estimates from BT have been reported to reinstate the telephone services, but the last time this happened it took approximately 10 days to repair the cable.
Thanks everyone for the information on the phone line outage.
It looks like all villages served by the North Luffenham exchange- North Luffenham, South Luffenham, Edith Weston and potentially Barrowden – are affected
BT are aware and working on it
The earliest estimate from BT / Openreach to resolve the problem is tomorrow evening
The phone lines are down on Lyndon Road. Is this the same anywhere else in North Luffenham?
There will be an evening of Jazz and Soul at Barrowden Church on Friday 3rd June at 7.30pm – See poster for details

Please note that the airfield is out of bounds tonight from 21:00 to 06:00 due to protection dog training
A report has been received from a resident of Kings Road that someone entered his property through closed gates whilst he was out, and deposited an old mattress into a skip in his garden.

It has been a rather strange two years, with restrictions on a lot of our usual activities and many people have missed the social interactions that are usually part of their everyday life. North Luffenham is a lovely village, with a lot of history and having village events & clubs enables us to develop a sense of community and friendship.
Please come along to our village ‘get together’ and make new friends, meet old friends, all while enjoying delicious homemade cakes & biscuits! There will also be coffee, tea and a variety of fruit & herbal teas available. The room is well ventilated and sanitiser will be available.
There is no entry charge for this event but cash donations will be given to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.
For anyone needing assistance, help is available to get to the community centre.

As you may have seen around the village, the Men & Women in Sheds Team have been busy making bespoke garden furniture to order. Over the coming month we have some slots available should you want anything wooden built to your own design (or one inspired by us).
Our prices are very reasonable and are based on cost of the wood plus a donation to AgeUK to enable us to run the Shed.
Examples of our handiwork are picnic tables, garden benches, potting tables, bug boxes, mud kitchens & planters.
