Cricket Club Pavilion Clean Up

Many thanks from the Cricket Club to everyone, both members and non members, who helped out on the “Ground Force” clean up of the Pavilion. It was a great demonstration of community spirit.

The building is looking much better for a Jetwash, repaired guttering and roof and a cleaned and repainted interior.

There are still some details to finish off, and the new carpets that have been ordered need to be fitted.

Once all the work is completed, the pavilion will once again be fit for hosting the cricket team, and also any other village community events who wish to utilise the building

Cricket Club Clean Up- April 1st-3rd

20160315_web_asset

For those of you who have thought recently, “h’mm the Pavilion is looking a bit grubby” or have mentioned things could do with a tidy up, now is your chance to help to make  a difference.

The Cricket Club have obtained sponsorship for materials from Natwest, & is undertaking a “Get Stuck In” weekend from Friday 1st April to Sunday 3rd April. Obviously “Many Hands Make Light Work” and so we would welcome help from anyone who would be willing to assist in any way (for any period of time over the weekend) to get as much done as possible.

The intention is to spruce up the pavilion with a clean up and do some general maintenance – painting and repairs etc to make the pavilion and the area surrounding it a more pleasant place to be.

The pavilion is a village facility, able to be used by various different organisations within the village, and a clean up will make it a more welcoming space for anyone who wants to use it

If you can help out, please contact 07787557511 for further details and we look forward to seeing you over the weekend.

Local Crime Report – February 2016

Hi

Below is the latest Rutland South beat Police report of crimes within the local area

4/1/16 – Theft of diesel from HGV – Empingham road, Tinwell

14/1/16 – Theft of diesel – Main street, Stoke Dry

18/1/16 – Theft of diesel and battery – Gretton road, Lyddington

18/1/16 – Theft from unattended motor vehicle – Aldgate, Ketton

19/1/16 – Burglary dwelling – Burnhams road, Ketton

20/1/16 – Burglary other than dwelling (shed) – Barrowden road, Ketton

25/1/16 – Assault – Weston road, Edith Weston (detected)

28/1/16 – Burglary other than dwelling (shed) Barrowden road, Ketton

29/1/16 – Burglary other than dwelling (shed) – Tixover

2/2/16 – Theft from unattended motor vehicle – Empingham road, Ketton

2/2/16 – Burglary other than dwelling (shed) – Church lane, Glaston

Our current Problem Solving Plans are tackling burglary related crime in Ketton and also hare coursing along the corridor villages along the A47.

There has been an increase in reports of hare coursing in the past 2 weeks around the Wing to Glaston area and the Barrowden to Seaton area.

We are carrying out high visibility patrols in all the above locations to target offenders & liaising with neighbouring forces. Currently there is a matrix warning sign on Luffenham road, Ketton warning motorists of police operations in the area.

As you can see from the above crime for the last month, there have been 4 shed breaks. Please review your home security and if you need any advice, please feel free to contact me.

Remember we currently sell padlock alarms for ÂŁ8.50, which would be ideal for a shed.

Regards

Speeding in North Luffenham

One of the recurring topics highlighted to the Parish Council is the issue of vehicles speeding in the village environs.

The Parish Council is working on this problem in several ways:

  • Requesting Rutland County Council to reduce the speed limit on Edith Weston road from 40 mph to 30 mph
  • Considering the Installation of warning speed signs similar to those used in Edith Weston & South Luffenham (potentially with the facility to count the number of vehicles exceeding the limit)
  • Requesting Rutland County Council to reduce the speed limit on Station Road from 60mph to 40 mph

These activities are dependent on factors such as agreement from Rutland County Council, and funding.

One “self help” action the village could undertake without any dependency on other organisations would be to set up a Community Speed Watch organisation.

This would enable members of the village population to be trained in the use of a speed gun, and the loan of a calibrated speed gun for a specific period of time.

The idea is that the trained village volunteers can use the speed gun to check the speeds of vehicles within the village over a period of time, and report details of vehicles found to be over the relevant limit to the Police. The Police will then potentially send letters to the drivers of the vehicles warning them that they were observed exceeding the speed limit.

In order to start a scheme such as this, proof is needed that at least 20% of the village population support the suggestion for the scheme, and between 6 and 16 people are willing to actively participate in the vehicle checks. 20% of the North Luffenham population would be 130 people.

I would like to gauge the level of interest in such a scheme for North Luffenham – as speeding is a recurring topic, I’m assuming people would be all for it 🙂

If you think its something worth pursuing, could you please email me at pete.burrows@northluffenham.com  – if it looks like we can hit the target of 130 people supporting a scheme, we can start the process of registering, gathering the formal interest documents from the people who are interested, and look to have the scheme implemented this year.

More information on the scheme can be found here:

Vulcan Bomber – last flight over Rutland Water on Sunday

XH558 sunday approx route timesThe aviation enthusiasts amongst you will be aware of the last flying Vulcan bomber, known as XH558.

This has been kept flying for the last few years by a private charity, based at Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster.

2015 is the last year it will be able to fly, due to the difficulties in continuing the required support for a complex aircraft.

The Vulcan will be undertaking a “last hurrah” flight around the UK this weekend. The Southern loop of this flight will take place on Sunday, 11th October, and will include Rutland Water as a waypoint on the trip around the country.

There will be no display as such, but it will be overhead the reservoir for a period of time

Timings are still to be confirmed, but further details can be found on the Vulcan Trusts website.
