We are urging residents to review their home security, especially their sheds and outbuildings.
Our current Problems solving plans are tackling burglary related crime in Ketton, hare coursing along the A47 corridor villages between Uppingham and Barrowden and tackling the increased threat of lead thefts from church roofs. There have been 7 thefts in the Melton Mowbray area this year.
We have visited all Rutland Churches and carried out risk assessments on their security to reduce the threat.
Last month I mentioned the launch of the Leicestershire and Rutland Rural Watch, which tackles rural crime. Please visit its website, via the below link? It contains rural crime updates and a whole host of crime prevention advice.

The pupils at St Mary and St John Primary School in North Luffenham spent last week coming up with a range of inventive ideas to support the campaign. Some classes chose to don their favourite outfit and dance for 30 minutes, while others were swimming, or skipping, scootering or biking around a course.

Pupils build their own model satellites
The theme has been space and the aim of the week is to spark children’s enthusiasm and celebrate all things scientific and technological, with some maths and engineering thrown in.
Families were challenged to build a vehicle that would transport a chocolate bar to a fixed target, and demonstrate a scientific understanding, accuracy and durability.
An amazing array of ideas were tested, with the Hodson family winning the competition.

A national initiative has been launched asking local authorities to clean and tidy up their Public spaces as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. I am pleased to say that North Luffenham plans to respond to this by having a “Clean for the Queen” weekend on April 16th & 17th to clean and tidy the Oval Recreation ground.
This is being organised by Charles Cade. Any residents of North Luffenham who wish to help with this should meet Charles at the cricket Pavilion at 10-00 am on either of those days
Jason from the Fox is planning to celebrate the 1st birthday of the opening of the revitalised Fox Pub on Easter Sunday, 27th March, from 8pm onwards with live music from Irene Rae

Just a reminder that we have a really excellent film lined up for you on March 9th. Brooklyn is an uplifting movie, aimed to raise your spirits if spring is being a tad tardy over on your side of the hemisphere (I’m happily on the other side for a bit longer!).
Usual time and place – Uppingham Town Hall, 7 for a 7.30 start, £5 on the door, bring anything you like to drink.
Bear in mind that next month we have not been able to go for our usual second Wednesday of the month slot but rather the 1st Wednesday as a ‘one off’ – but I’ll send you a reminder for that one. Meantime, I hope you all enjoy Brooklyn. Susie

Our current Problem Solving Plans are tackling burglary related crime in Ketton and also hare coursing along the corridor villages along the A47.
There has been an increase in reports of hare coursing in the past 2 weeks around the Wing to Glaston area and the Barrowden to Seaton area.
We are carrying out high visibility patrols in all the above locations to target offenders & liaising with neighbouring forces. Currently there is a matrix warning sign on Luffenham road, Ketton warning motorists of police operations in the area.
As you can see from the above crime for the last month, there have been 4 shed breaks. Please review your home security and if you need any advice, please feel free to contact me.
Remember we currently sell padlock alarms for £8.50, which would be ideal for a shed.

On Tuesday January 12th there will be a talk at The Rutland Museum, Oakham on the subject of Women in World War 1. In particular this talk features the story of Elsie Fenwick who lived in North Luffenham and is buried in the churchyard.
The talk starts at 7-30 pm with refreshments from 6-45 pm
Just to remind you that these damp and gloomy January days can be cheered up next Wednesday (13/01/16) by coming along to the Town Hall to watch Love & Mercy. For those who might think this is mainly a vehicle for some great Beach Boys tracks, do have a look at our excellent website (uppinghamfilms.co.uk) to view the trailer and you will see that there is a strong dramatic element to be found as well. It has had some brilliant reviews. As ever, the doors will be open from 7pm with the film starting at 7.30 and we shall look forward to greeting you and wishing you a slightly belated happy New Year. As always, bring a bottle and a cushion and anything else that makes the evening fun. We shall do some home-baked nibbles as ever.
Just in case I get sidetracked by sunshine next month (hurrah!), I’ll mention now that we will be showing Suffragette on Feb 10th. I saw it last week and thought it was really excellent. March 9th will be Brooklyn – again, great reviews – and then on April we are not, as a one off, able to have the Town Hall on the second Wednesday of the month so will instead be showing the wonderful Lady in the Van on April 6th (the 1st Wednesday). All dates for your 2016 diaries.

“Residents of North Luffenham will recently have received their copy of RUTLAND LIVING. The front cover of that Magazine shows Nicky Morris (of North Luffenham) leading her dance class and the article inside headed “Silver Swans” tells of the excellent work she has done in bringing ballet / dance to the more mature ladies. Nicky is a highly talented ballerina and is now making dance available to a wider audience. We in North Luffenham should be very proud of her”
The following security advice has come from our local Police Officer
Dear all,
Please, on the run up to Christmas make sure that you are security conscious. Please follow the following advice to make sure you have a Happy Christmas and a crime free one at that.
Most burglaries are carried out on the spur of the moment by opportunist thieves- they may see an open window or an easy entry point and take their chance.
Hiding spare keys outside your home is an open invitation to thieves. Avoid leaving keys in an obvious place near doors and windows.
When you go out, make sure you lock the doors and close your windows, even if you are going out for a short time.
Visible burglar alarms and security Lights are good deterrents to potential thieves.
Expensive items such as jewellery are attractive to thieves especially if they are on view from the outside. Try to ensure that valuable items cannot be seen through windows. When buying new items like X boxes, tablets, DVD players or blu rays, don’t leave the empty boxes on display near your bins.
Post coding your property can deter burglars because it makes it harder for thieves to sell. The police have a much better chance of returning property to its rightful owner following a burglary if it is marked.
Make a list of all valuable items and keep it somewhere. Take pictures of all valuable items like jewellery and silverware and write down the serial numbers of your TV, video, hi-fi, home computer and camera equipment to help the police identify them should they be stolen and recovered.
Taking steps to increase security of your home will reduce the chances of being burgled, but should you return home and notice signs of a break in, don’t go in or call out- there is a possibility the intruder may still be inside. Go to a neighbour’s house to call the police or use your mobile.
Have a great Christmas and New Year.
