A WORD OF CAUTION FROM OUR LOCAL POLICE OFFICER…….
Please see the note below from PC Paul Le Pla of the South Rutland beat
Hello all,
Recently I have spoken to one of our Neighbourhood Watch coordinators regarding door to door sellers.
My advice is that if door to door sellers descend on us, then please telephone the police on 101 to inform us, so we can check these people out.
They often get dropped off in villages in groups & later get picked up together. If you see them with a car, then discreetly obtain the registration number details. To legally sell door to door, you require a Pedlars certificate, which the seller must show you.
When speaking to these people, I would suggest that you be polite & just say, “No thanks, I do not buy from people at the door”.
Unfortunately, there are links to criminal activity associated with some of these people.
Trading Standards would also like to hear of such incidents. My contact is Rob EDMONDS & he works from the Peterborough office, but covers Rutland.
He can be contacted on either 01733 747474 (main office) or 01733 453528 (his direct line).
Please feel free to pass these numbers around to local residents?
Regards
Paul
Night-Crawler
Dear All,
Firstly, apologies for being so tardy in reminding you about our next film in 3 days time…. I’ve been away, and got all behind. However, the good news is that we are showing NIGHT-CRAWLER on Wednesday, and it has had some terrific feedback. I know it sounds a bit like a horror movie title, but it isn’t – it is a deliciously exciting, quite dark thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Everyone I know who has seen it has raved about it so grab your chance.
Usual time and place – Uppingham Town Hall, doors open at 7 for 7.30. We will as always supply a few home-made goodies to welcome you with and soft drinks if wanted, but do feel free to bring a bottle or anything else that adds to your fun. Some of us like to have a cushion for the chairs, but most think they are fine. Tickets £5 (always available on the door, but can be pre-booked at the Falcon if preferred).
And don’t forget that you can always check out our website to see what is coming up (& we’ve got some excellent films lined up for the autumn), including trailers: Uppingham Films | Beautiful and powerful films
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Air Rifle Sport comes to North Luffenham – this Sunday.
The UKAHFT English Open is being hosted by local shooting club Misfits HFTC at North Luffenham tomorrow morning.
Hunter field target (HFT) is a target shooting sport derived from the air gun disciplines of field target shooting and hunting. Primarily an outdoor sport, shot with UK legal air rifles, a typical HFT course is made up of 30 lanes, with each lane comprising of a peg and a metal “knock down” target placed in a position to simulate a hunting scenario. The peg marks the shooting spot and the shooter must touch the peg with part of his or her body or gun for the shot to count.
90 entrants from across the country will compete against each other on this new challenging course, which comprises of 30 targets ranging from 8 yds to 45yds distance, in a rural setting.
Misfits HFTC were unable to use their usual venue near Brigstick, Corby and so were offered the use of Station field, just above the Linecross car park.
The competition is due to run from approximately 10am to 1pm. Spectators are welcome in the specially marked areas.
More information can be found here about the UKAHFT https://www.sites.google.com/site/ukahft/

FR-IR Bottle Tombola. A Big Thanks.
The FR-IR Annual Bottle Tombola 2015 – The Rutland County Show
Firstly, please accept our apologies for this rather impersonal but still extremely sincere thank you to you all, for being so generous with the bottle collection in North Luffenham. The response from you was phenomenal this year, thank you so much for the effort you put into the Bottle Tombola Collection for FR-IR in your community. And a particular thank you to the Fox, for acting as a drop off point!
Our bottles were down this year but we still managed to total £4000, which is a significant sum. But the Tombola gave us an important presence at the Show, therefore increasing the awareness of this still new charity.
So it was well worth it!
The Rutland Show 2015 meant we celebrated our 1st anniversary and thanks to our wonderful support, FR-IR is already going from strength to strength. We are now funding 2 advisors at the Citizens Advice in Oakham. The demand for this service has far outweighed our expectation and the post is now full-time with 2 advisors sharing the demand.
So our funding is even more vital than before ……….
We hope that in 2016 we will be able to find a sponsor for our marquee and for our trade stand pitch. We estimate this sum to be about £1000 so if any of you have any ideas of who to approach, please let us know!
An extra big thank you to those Collectors who also helped on the day…volunteering in the marquee is such a fun way of spending time raising money….and getting to know the team! Your time and your enthusiasm were much appreciated by the Fundraising Committee.
We hope that we will be able to call upon you again next year for the village collection. It has been so well proved that the personal touch gains more rewards…so please bear that in mind, if you have the time. Also, a number of collectors issue their cards with their Parish Magazines, so if you let me know your deadline date, we can get the collection cards to you, to save your foot work!
This year we failed to have a successful collection in Uppingham, Oakham and South Luffenham…..so any ideas for that, will be really helpful, as well.
Sincere thanks to you on behalf of the Fundraising Committee for your continued commitment and support, helping to increase the profile of FR-IR and to raise such a magnificent sum of money.
Kind regards
Trish Ruddle

I am pleased to advise residents that the Parish Council’s Accounting Statements and Governance Statement for 2014/15 (already posted on this web-site) have received an unqualified audit from Grant Thornton on behalf of the Audit Commission. I will now be posting the Notice of Closure on the Village notice boards. This gives details of when and where these documents can be inspected.
