Opera in Morcott

Opera in Morcott
Saturday 17 June 2017
7pm for 7.30pm ‘curtain up’
Morcott Church

Lovers of light opera have a treat in store on Saturday 17 June when a group of musical friends – Amici – present Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘Trial by Jury’ and other operatic highlights in the beautiful setting of Morcott Church.

Amici Chamber Choir has performed the length and breadth of the UK, from Manchester’s concert halls to National Trust stately homes, and on TV for Songs of Praise.

The 18-strong choir is boosted by professional soloists Nick Hardy (Opera North), Joanne Rondel and Judith Tinston who all perform under the leadership of George Robey.

The first half of the programme is Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘Trial By Jury’, a comic opera in one act.  After a relaxed interval during which drinks will be offered, the second half of the concert is a mix of operatic hits including a show-stopping ‘Nessun Dorma’ and memorable choral pieces, some of which have been arranged specially for the concert by choir members.

Tickets £12.50 from Alison Johnson on 01572 747381.

Unreserved seating.

Interval refreshments available.

See www.morcott.wordpress.com for further information.

Proceeds to church funds.

Nicki’s Celebration of Life

Nicki’s celebration of life will take place at St John the Baptist Church North Luffenham LE15 8JR at 1-00 pm on Tuesday May 30th and  afterwards Tea/Coffee/cakes/soft drinks will be available at “The Fox” in North Luffenham

Please note that Nicki has requested that guests may, if they wish, wear a touch of pink when attending the service.

Time still left.

Thank you very much to all villagers who have completed the Village Plan Questionnaire (paper copy or the on line version). There has been a very good response from across the village and this will enable a valid assessment of how the residents of North Luffenham feel about the present state of the village and thoughts and ideas about future developments.

If for some reason your questionnaire was not collected, or you haven’t had time to fill it in, then completed copies can be delivered to The Fox, or completed on line. If another copy is required then they can be obtained from The Fox.

AND there is still a chance to WIN A PRIZE: a two course meal for two with a bottle of house wine at The Fox.

Closing date for questionnaires to be returned is the 22nd May.

Distribution of the Village Plan Questionnaire

Over the next two weeks the Village Plan Questionnaire will be delivered to each house hold and the Parish Council would be grateful if each adult in the household could complete the questionnaire,  this will only take about 15 minutes. There is a much shortened questionnaire for 11 – 15 year olds as the Parish Council would also very much appreciate their opinions. One to two weeks following delivery, will be collected, or you can deliver them personally to the ‘post box’ in The Fox.

The questionnaires can also be completed online by clicking on following link:

https://northluffenham.com/village-plan-questionnaire/

Village Plan Volunteers Meeting

In response to the post below a number of volunteers have come forward but it would be helpful to have some more.

There is a meeting on Monday 10th April at 7.30pm in the upstairs room at The Fox at which you would be most welcome

(The Village Plan Steering Group are seeking help in the delivery and collection of the Questionnaires that will inform the new Village Plan. It is hoped that we can find up to 20 volunteers willing to assist in this important role. Toxocara Canis

Perhaps better known as dog roundworm the embryonated eggs of which can be ingested by humans causing disease called toxocariasis. Young children are particularly at risk as it is picked up by ingestion of eggs from infected dog faeces. It is fortunately rare but rare things do happen. Dog mess is not only unpleasant but a potential source of an unpleasant infection.

This item is being reposted as another incident of dog fouling on The Oval and also on a street in the village was reported to the Parish Council. In the incident on The Oval the owner of the dog was challenged but refused to clean up. The vast majority of dog owners conscientiously clean up after their dogs and please continue to be vigilant when walking your dog. If users of The Oval see an infringement please continue to challenge and point out that there are bins provided.

Lost Cardigan

Lost on Saturday Night (6th August) between Church St. and Ancaster Way. Navy blue, size 8-10, wrap style cardigan with front ties.

If found would be very grateful if could be returned. Please phone 01780 360083

A resident, upset that there was dog mess present where her children were playing on The Oval, contacted a Parish Councillor recently. There are a number of Poop Scoop bins provided and these are emptied on a regular basis. Not to be missed

The Chater Choir Summer Concert will be performed on Saturday 16th July in Uppingham Parish Church at 7.30pm. Please click on the link below:

Room

Just a reminder to let you know that our next film is Room, and as usual it is on the second Wednesday of the month which is July 13th – no more Wimbledon catch-up to watch!

Room has been described as ‘a heartfelt, Golden Globe-winning performance powers this gripping drama’ (Guardian), and ‘it is hard to think of a movie adaptation of a book that feels truer and more loyal to its source than Room’.  You can always check the trailer on our website (Uppinghamfilms.co.uk)

As ever, we will open the Town Hall doors at 7pm for a 7.30 start and tickets will be sold on the door (£5). There will be some home-baking and a warm welcome. Do feel free to bring a bottle and a cushion.  We look forward to seeing you there. (And if you are an enthusiastic local and feel like spending a bit more time in the Town Hall, the Council is looking for a new member – contact the Town Clerk on townclerk@uppinghamtowncouncil.co.uk in the next couple of weeks).

Meantime, enjoy the touch of summer that is creeping in!  Susie

Comments can also emailed to planning@rutland.gov.uk but can also be made by post or in person. Comments must be made within 21 days of the application being posted.

The Planning Committee posts each application on the North Luffenham website when it is received and discusses each application. In order to reach a decision members of the committee may discuss with the applicant and neighbours affected. The committee in most cases is able to reach a decision but on occasions, for a contentious or major application, the Parish Council as a whole will be involved.

Actions to save a life

In the next few days the following information will be delivered on a leaflet to each household in the village along with a ‘fridge magnet’.

“We hope that it never happens to us but suddenly a person collapses and perhaps you are the only one there. How to get help?

Actions to save a life:

  • In an emergency always call 999 first.
  • Read this letter.
  • Programme numbers into mobile.
  • Programme numbers into home phone.
  • Put magnet onto the fridge.
  • North Luffenham has a defibrillator sited at the ‘The Fox’ but if you are on your own you cannot leave the person who has collapsed to go and get it.

The village has a Village Emergency Telephone System (VETS) and if you dial

01780 322070

one of the volunteers, who has had training in the use of the defibrillator, will be contacted quickly and bring the defibrillator to you.

When you dial 01780 322070 you will hear the following message:

“Welcome to VETS. In a moment you will be connected to one of the village helpers. Please state clearly the assistance you require.”

Enclosed is a ‘fridge magnet’ with the VETS number.”
