New council ward boundaries for Rutland

You may be aware that the Local Government Boundary Commission is asking local people for their help to draw up a new pattern of council wards for Rutland County Council and are holding a consultation that will run from Tuesday 25th July to Monday 2nd October.

The consultation is the first part of an electoral review which will re-draw ward boundaries across the area with the aim of ensuring that each councillor represents roughly the same number of voters. The review also aims to ensure that the new council wards reflect, as far as possible, the interests and identities of communities across Rutland. Please note that the commission has recommended that the number of councillors should remain the same.

Find out how you can put forward your views and ideas:

Consultation on the Future of Healthwatch Services for Rutland

Rutland County Council are undertaking a joint consultation with Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council to consider our options for the future provision of Healthwatch services in each of the local authority areas from April 2018.

They have jointly produced an online survey to collect views from the public and professionals alike – both those who currently use Healthwatch services and those who might wish to in the future.  Hard copies of the consultation will also be available at GP surgeries and libraries across Rutland.

The survey is open from Tuesday 1st August to Friday 8th September at: https://consultations.leicester.gov.uk/adult-social-care-health-and-housing/healthwatch-proposals

Help shape Rutland County Council Local Plan

Rutland residents are being given the opportunity to share their views and help shape Rutland’s Local Plan, during an eight-week consultation that runs until Monday 25th September.

The Local Plan provides planning policies for the whole of Rutland, as well as identifying the main locations for future development in the County.

The latest version of the Local Plan is currently being reviewed with the aim of extending the plan period from 2026 to 2036, setting out where additional new housing, employment and other development will be needed during this time.

As part of this process, the Council is seeking people’s views on a new Draft Local Plan that identifies provisional sites for additional employment, retail, waste management and minerals-related development, along with space for approximately 1,700 additional new homes to meet housing needs in Rutland over the plan period.

Cllr Oliver Hemsley, Portfolio Holder for Growth, Trading Services and Resources, said:

“This is a great opportunity for local people to get involved and help shape future development in Rutland. One of the Council’s main aims is to help deliver sustainable growth in the county – growth that meets the needs of both current and future generations of residents while also protecting our rural environment. We are keen to hear feedback from residents and local businesses to ensure the Local Plan reflects the needs, expectations and views of our community.”

Vandalism – Graffiti on the cricket pavillion

After a long period where there have been no issues with vandalism in the village, unfortunately the problem has reappeared.

Someone in the last couple of days has sprayed graffiti onto the Cricket Club toilet block

Can anyone who might have any information about who might have done this please contact Charles Cade

Oval Play Equipment – Update

We have recently received confirmation from Rutland County Council authorising the installation of the 3 new pieces of Oval equipment and the order has been placed with our chosen supplier.

The likely installation date is some time in September which isn’t ideal given that it won’t be in place for the remaining School holidays. We have asked the supplier to give us priority in the event of other work being delayed. As a reminder the equipment is a zip-wire, cradle swing and climbing frame.

We have also started the process of gaining quotes for slightly smaller goalposts to replace the adult sized versions that are currently in a very poor state of repair and are largely unsuitable for children to use due to their height.

We intend to redecorate all of the current equipment that is in place too, with quotes currently being obtained for this work.

Rutland High Sheriff’s Bike Ride & Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day & The High Sheriff’s Bike Ride Are Coming To Barrowden

This August Bank Holiday Monday – August 28th

Summer is well and truly here and this year there is a new event to add to the busy Barrowden calendar. A family fun day is being organised by Craig Mitchell, the newly appointed High Sheriff of Rutland (and Barrowden resident) to raise funds for the Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (a service that villagers have called upon twice in recent memory).

Added interest for this event is going to be the High Sheriff’s bike ride – an 8 mile course, supervised by marshals, taking in Rutland’s beautiful Welland Valley. Entry fees will all be donated to the Air Ambulance so get training now for this healthy and enjoyable cycle ride. There will even be a free mini circuit for younger children around the village if they want to take part too! Details about entering the Cycle ride will be on village email soon.

Whilst the cycle ride starts at 11.00am, the fun gets going on Barrowden Village Green at 12.00pm. A huge variety of attractions are being organised to appeal to everyone in the family. There will be children’s races, novelty races for the young at heart, a vintage car display, Petanque (Boulles) tuition and matches, burgers & hotdogs, tea & cakes, a Tombola, face painting, flip flop fling, Pimms, plant & cake stalls, a pillory, penalty shoot-out competition and many, many more activities for everyone to have a really fun afternoon for a tremendously worthwhile cause.

Make a note on your calendar, invite your family and friends and come on down for a great afternoon’s entertainment on Barrowden Village Green.

CPR and Defibrillator

There will be a talk on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and use of a defibrillator at the Community Centre at 7pm on Tuesday 25th July.

We hope that it never happens to us but suddenly a person collapses and perhaps you are the only one there. How to get help?

In an emergency always call 999 first.

North Luffenham has a defibrillator sited at the ‘The Fox’ but if you are on your own you cannot leave the person who has collapsed to go and get it.

The village has a Village Emergency Telephone System (VETS) and if you dial

01780 322070

This number enables one of the volunteers, who have had training in the use of the defibrillator, to be contacted quickly.

When you dial 01780 322070 you will hear the following message:

“Welcome to VETS. In a moment you will be connected to one of the village helpers. Please state clearly the assistance you require.”

One of the aim of the session is to update the VETS volunteers but all are welcome to learn more about CPR and defibrillators.

There will be an opportunity to donate to support VETS and the Community HeartBeat Trust.
