Bonfire Night 2016 🎆

Just a reminder that its 5th November – Bonfire Night 🙂

North Luffenham’s event on the Oval this evening will include a competition for the best Guy, a Barbecue with burgers, hot and cold drinks for sale, and, back by popular demand, real Mulled Wine with an extra shot of warming spice.

So get rummaging in your wardrobes for that Worzel Gummage look and make your way to the Oval prior to the bonfire being lit at 6.20pm 🙂

Rutland South Beat Report

Received from PC Paul Le Pla as follows:

Here is the latest Rutland South beat report detailing crime for last month:

5/10/16 – Burglary other than dwelling (garage – 2 bikes stolen) – Capendale road, Ketton

6/10/16 – Theft from unattended motor vehicle  – Spring lane, Glaston

15/10/16 – Damage(fence) – Main street, Tinwell

17/10/16 – Theft from unattended motor vehicle (reg plates) – East lane, Riddlington

20/10/16 – Burglary dwelling (plus vehicle stolen) – Main street, Barrowden

25/10/16 – Burglary dwelling – Crown lane, Tinwell

31/10/16 – Theft of m/cycle – Ullswater road, Edith Weston

31/10/16 – Theft from unattended motor vehicle (reg plates) – Empingham road, Ketton

We are still carrying out an operation paying special attention to Rutland Churches, carrying out high visibility patrols & liaising with bordering forces because of this. 3 Eastern European males have been arrested on suspicion of lead theft from 2 Rutland Churches (Manton & Egleton) and they are currently on police bail, whilst we are carrying out further enquires.

Our other Problem solving Plans are –

1 – Targeting hare coursing  along the A47 corridor from Uppingham to Tixover & parts of the north beat area from Langham towards the A1. Last month, members of the public reported to police numerous reports of hare coursing. As a result several people and vehicles have been identified as taking part in this illegal activity.

I would encourage you all to report any persons you suspect are involved in hare coursing to police on 101, when out and about.

Remember to visit Rural Watch website for rural crime updates and a whole host of crime prevention advice.

Play Area Equipment – Update

As part of the planning process for the building of the new houses on the Rosewood Development, the Parish council received funding to enhance the play equipment on the Oval. Cllr Steve Marson has been working hard to identify, with input from parishioners, the most appropriate equipment. We are now at the point of considering a number of quotations from suppliers. It is hoped that following consultation about the siting of the new equipment, it will be installed in the Spring.

Speeding – Speed Limit Reductions

SPEED LIMITS

After a long drawn out and concerted campaign by the Parish Council and County Councillors, we have been advised that Rutland County Council have agreed to reduce the speed limit on Edith Weston Road from 40MPH to 30MPH and to impose a speed limit of 40MPH along Station Road from the Junction with Ketton Road to the level crossing.

Costings and plans are being drawn up for the necessary signage etc and we will inform the village of the ‘start date’ as soon as the information is available.

BONFIRE NIGHT – 2016 🎆

The Parish Council will again be hosting a Bonfire Night event on the Oval on Saturday 5th November.

This year we invite villagers to bring a ‘Guy’ – guys will be judged at the Pavillion at 6pm and a prize awarded for the best. The Bonfire will be lit at around 6.30 and the fireworks will commence shortly afterwards.

As usual hot food and drinks will be available. There will be a bucket collection to help offset the costs and we would be most grateful for your generosity. Suggested donation is £5 per family

The event costs almost £2,000 to cover the costs of fireworks and insurance and unless we can cover these costs it may not be possible to fund the event in the future.

Thanks to all those that have volunteered to act as stewards, caterers, bonfire builders etc, it is much appreciated.

VILLAGE PLAN – OPEN MEETING – MON 7th NOVEMBER 2016 AT 7.30pm

To help the Parish Council understand the future needs of the village and the aspirations of everyone that lives here we are planning to write a Village Plan. An initial “Open Meeting” to discuss how we are best to tackle this initiative is to be held in the Community Centre on Monday 7th November at 7.30pm. The meeting is open to all and we look forward to explaining what we hope to achieve and to seek input from a cross section of the village. More details are contained in the attached briefing note:

Thanks Ian & Welcome Angela – Parish Clerk Handover

For the last 7 years Ian Ferguson has been the Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer for the Parish Council. Handover - Ian and AngelaToday marks the formal handover of responsibilities between Ian and Angela .

During his tenure Ian has provided the interface between the Parish Council and the Village, as well as providing a link with Rutland County Council and a host of organisations that support the village.

Ian’s time in office has been marked by great professionalism, dedication and a willingness to go that extra mile to ensure that the Village gets a very special service. To thank him for this, the Parish Council hosted a farewell Dinner in The Fox earlier in the month attended by past and present Councillors.

Thank you Ian and Welcome to Angela.
