The Leader of RCC commented last week that “the Publication of the first high-level plan for St George’s Barracks marks the start of a conversation between the Council, the MoD and Rutland Residents as we begin to plan for the future of this extremely important site” Consultation around the first high level plan for St George’s will begin with a public exhibition at Victoria Hall in Oakham from 3pm to 7pm on May 11 and from 10am to 2pm on May 12th. In addition a roadshow will take place to communities. The North Luffenham presentation will take place on Wednesday 16th May at St Mary and St John School at 6.30pm, to be followed by a display of maps etc and a chance to discuss proposals with key staff involved in the project. As a conversation is very much a two way process I would hope that RCC will be prepared to listen carefully to local concerns.
I would urge all villagers to attend this presentation of the Master Plan at 6.30pm on Wed 16th May in the School Hall.

Next week the County Council’s initial Master Plan for the development of St George’s Barracks will be published. This will propose building more than 3,000 homes on the barrack site in additional to a quarry and an industrial site. To pre-empt the publication of the Master Plan the North Luffenham / Edith Weston Parish Council Working Group have sent a personalised letter to every County Councillor expressing out concern at proposals to build a town considerably larger than Uppingham in the heart of the County, and asking them if this really is Right for Rutland. A copy of the letter to Councillors is attached for your information.

Many thanks indeed to the 150 Villagers that attended the APM on Monday evening. The Minutes of the meeting will be published shortly.
The evening provided an opportunity to hear the County Council’s response to the “Concerns” paper that had been prepared by the Joint Edith Weston / North Luffenham Working Group. The RCC paper which was discussed at the meeting is attached below.
In questions the key points arising included – “What are the proposed infrastructure developments and how can we influence this” and “where is the evidence that a new town of this size is needed, which dwarfs the requirement identified in the local plan”.
The Parish Council Working Group will meet shortly to discuss how we get our message across to the whole County.
The next milestone in the process will be the publication of a draft Master Plan and we have invited RCC to present this to the village on Wed 16th May 18 in the School Hall at 6.30pm.

Issues and Response – St Georges Concerns Latest v1.1 (16-04-18)
I would wish to thank everyone that helped in the organisation and the 30 Couples that participated in the Safari Supper on Saturday evening. It certainly was great fun and enabled lots of people to meet new friends. At the end of the evening we were able to present a cheque to the sum of £600 to Dove Cottage Day Hospice – many thanks to all.
If you have any comments on how to improve the event do please contact me. If you were unable to attend please do join us next time – it is well worth while.

North Luffenham’s Annual Parish Meeting will held at 7.30pm on Monday, 16th April 2018 in the School Hall. All residents of North Luffenham are welcome.
The Chairman and many of your Councillors will be in attendance to answer any questions concerning Parish Council affairs. The agenda is shown below together with the Chairman’s Report which will be considered at the meeting.
Following the Annual Meeting The Leader of RCC, Cllr Oliver Hemsley and the Chief Executive Mrs Heln Briggs will make a presentation on the ‘Concerns paper’ that had been presented by the Parish Council concerning the proposed development of up to 3,000 new homes, an industrial estate and a quarry on the sire of the Barracks. This development will inevitably impact upon all residents and you are strongly urged to attend this meeting to put your concerns to the County Council’s representatives.
Many thanks indeed to Ken Hall who, after a chat in the Fox last evening, kindly agreed to give the Village Sign a bit of wash and brush up (or should that be spit and polish) – it now gleams!! Many thanks indeed Ken and to Jason Allen for facilitating the clean up.
This month on Thursday 12 April at 7.30pm in the Community Centre we will be welcoming Neil Tyers from the National Auricula and Primula Society. A specialist grower of Auriculas, he will give an illustrated talk on all aspects of growing and keeping these wonderful plants.
For our final speaker of the season, on Thursday 10 May, we will have a presentation from a previous visitor to our garden club, Geoff Hodge, looking in detail at scented plants in the garden. Geoff is a prolific garden writer, with a wide area of knowledge which he loves to pass onto other gardeners.
All welcome, non members pay £2.
Please note the correction to the date: the meeting is MONDAY 16th APRIL – Apologies !!
This year on 11th November 2018 it will be the centenary of the ending of the Great War after which the poppy became the symbol of Remembrance.
To mark this there are many schemes using poppies.
Here in the village , our Rector, Pippa would like a scheme for knitting/ crocheting poppies for a Cascade of flowers outside the church. This should be beautiful provided enough poppies are made! This project will be spearheaded by Fay Cummings and further details will follow after Easter.
In Oakham, it is hoped to replicate a version from the Tower of London with clay poppies at the castle.
I would like to set up an opportunity in the village for the clay poppy scheme ( open to men, women and older children ) and hope this would be one Saturday in June.
Apparently during a session of about 2 hours , it takes each person about 15 MINUTES to make a poppy. These will then be taken away for firing. All tuition is given. Artistic talent not needed.
Cost is zero although donations are welcome.
I need about 20 expressions of interest to set this up.
So if you would be interested please contact me by email : hilary.daintith@gmail.com
As previously published, the village Safari Supper is scheduled for Saturday 14th Apr 18. Have you registered your interest?? If not please contact Judy Cade (Tel: 720467) or Paul Cummings (Tel: 720124). Cost is £20/House with all proceeds going to Dove Cottage Day Hospice.
A fun evening eating and meeting your way around the village. Booking Deadline is 24th March.
North Luffenham Garden Club Meeting this Thursday 8th March at the Community Centre starting at 7.30pm.
This month Trevor Rogers, an experienced fruit grower and former RHS tutor, will be holding an interactive fruit growing clinic. We look forward to learning better ways of growing and enjoying the fruits of our labours.
As always, we welcome non members, (guests £2.00).
Due to the inclement weather there will be no visit from Arthur’s Fish and çhip van this evening.
Normal service will be resumed next week
We have been advised that due to an abandoned car on Station Road the road may currently be impassable. Please be aware and avoid Station Road this evening. It is hoped to move the car early tomorrow am.
A Fraud MO is being conducted against elderly vulnerable people involving a male caller, described by various victims as having an Indian or foreign accent, contacting the vulnerable person knowing their name, address and bank in order to try to get them to withdraw money from the bank.
Offences have continued across the force with a potential further 14 incidents being called into the Police over the last few weeks. This is likely to be higher in number due to some incidents being reported directly to Action Fraud and others being unreported.
A couple of variations to the method have been observed, these being the victim being persuaded to transfer their money into the suspects bank account and also where the scam initially began as a BT/TalkTalk representative rather than from the Police/bank.
