Bonfire/ Firework Display Survey 2015

The Parish Council are reviewing the annual bonfire and firework display and is canvassing the village to obtain opinions on the event and input on how it may be improved. We have already sought feedback from a number of residents following the displays of the last 2 years.

As a result of this, we anticipate using fewer rockets in the display, in favour of alternative fireworks. This will reduce the risk of high winds affecting the display and increase control over the direction taken by individual fireworks.

We intend to manage the bonfire more carefully this year and make good the damage to the grass as quickly as possible post the display.

We would be grateful if you would spend a few minutes completing the questions in the Firework Survey to enable us to take your views into account.

Annual Village Trip 2015

The annual village trip is to Skegness this year, on Wednesday 24th June.

We will be leaving from Church street at 9.15am and leaving Skegness at 4.30pm to arrive back in the village at approx 6.15 pm.

This is a free trip, open to everyone in North Luffenham. There are still a few seats left so if you would like to come along  ring Evelyn on 720528

Actions to save a life

In the next few days the following information will be delivered on a leaflet to each household in the village along with a ‘fridge magnet’.

“We hope that it never happens to us but suddenly a person collapses and perhaps you are the only one there. How to get help?

Actions to save a life:

  • In an emergency always call 999 first.
  • Read this letter.
  • Programme numbers into mobile.
  • Programme numbers into home phone.
  • Put magnet onto the fridge.
  • North Luffenham has a defibrillator sited at the ‘The Fox’ but if you are on your own you cannot leave the person who has collapsed to go and get it.

The village has a Village Emergency Telephone System (VETS) and if you dial

01780 322070

one of the volunteers, who has had training in the use of the defibrillator, will be contacted quickly and bring the defibrillator to you.

When you dial 01780 322070 you will hear the following message:

“Welcome to VETS. In a moment you will be connected to one of the village helpers. Please state clearly the assistance you require.”

Enclosed is a ‘fridge magnet’ with the VETS number.”

Camera Club news May 2015

This was the last meeting before the Summer Break and took the form of a practical session. This encouraged us to try out our settings for various situations.
These ranged from portraits (Jessica very kindly sat for us as a model)- to still life and coloured light displays.

The Outing to Rutland Water was accompanied by Simon Lee, who gave a talk on Photography for Automotive magazines, last year. On the Theme of Movement, there were plenty of speeding yachts, windsurfers and the water! Although racing was delayed because of the windy conditions, it gave us an opportunty to experiement with camera settings. In spite of these adverse conditions (made bearable with hot coffee in the clubhouse) some exciting photos were captured.

Nic made it! 😤 34 days, 1,200 miles cycled and £6000 raised so far

Arriving at John O’Groats reminded me of the Alfred Wainwright quote in his beautifully illustrated ‘Pennine Way Companion’ (a guide that I used 39 years ago for that long distance trail). Referring to arriving at the end of the walk he says, “There is no brass band to greet you. There is no body waiting to pin a medal on your chest. There may be people about but they will not take any notice of you. Nobody cares that you have walked, and just this minute, completed the Pennine Way. You will not get your name in the papers, not be interviewed by television. No, the satisfaction you feel is intensely personal and cannot be shared. The sense of achievement is yours alone simply because you have earned it alone….. You did not do it to earn memories, but memories you have and in abundance for the rest of your life.” Well I have to say that these words did strike a cord as a stood at the edge looking out to sea 1178.49 miles from the start 34 days earlier.
