Please find attached the December 2017 Parish Council Newsletter. Wishing you all the very best wishes for Christmas and a prosperous 2018.
On Thursday 7th December the Parish Council hosted an open meeting in the Parish Church to discuss the proposed development of St George’s Barracks by a Public / Public Partnership formed by the Ministry of Defence and Rutland County Council. Cllr Cummings explained the rationale for holding the meeting which was to help gauge opinion and to encourage others to join the Working Group, to enable the Parish Council to better understand the Villagers’ concerns and aspirations regarding the development of the site. A summary of the meeting is attached. Further meetings will be held to enable all villagers to express their views. As noted in my previous posting all villagers are urged to contact their local MP to ensure that he is best placed to represent your views: alan.duncan.mp@parliament.uk
The Village Survey has been written up and if you look to right you will see a link that takes you to the report and perhaps something to read over the holiday period.
Feedback and comments welcomed.
There will be a presentation in the Community Centre of the survey on Thursday 25th January 2018 at 7pm.
And finally: The Prize Draw Entry: this is for the two course meal and a bottle of house wine at The Fox: the draw will take place at The Fox on 21st December at 7pm in the upstairs room.
The County Council will hold a consultation event for local residents keen to participate in focus groups on 29th Jan in the Officers Mess. Capacity will be 200 or so. There would be 2 x sessions one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Individuals wishing to participate in this consultation event will need to register their interest using the RCC feedback proforma which is available below and should be sent to: stgeorges@rutland.gov.uk . If you have a interest in the long term development of the St George’s Barracks Site I urge you to apply to attend.

On Thursday 30th November, The Chair of the Parish Council together with the Chair of Edith Weston Parish Council met with the Chief Executive of Rutland County Council to further discuss the proposals for the development of St George’s Barracks. The record of this meeting is attached.
The issues arising from this meeting and how the Village would wish the Parish Council to respond, will be discussed at the Open Meeting to be held in the Parish Church on Thursday 7th December at 7.30pm.
As the nights get colder and darker, the chances of severe weather increase. Since 1990, gas and electricity network companies have invested over £80bn to make the UK’s gas and electricity supply more reliable than ever before. But storms, floods and other extreme weather can still cause damage and disruption.
That’s why the UK’s gas and electricity network companies have come together to launch the Be Winter Ready campaign. The campaign aims to help the public better-prepare for power cuts and gas emergencies that may result from bad winter weather.
To Be Winter Ready, you should:
Designs and proposed surfacing materials for an improved Oakham High Street with one-way traffic flow will go on display at Oakham Library from 14th November to 15th December 2017 as part of the town centre regeneration scheme being led by Rutland County Council.
The display will include design drawings, showing work to date on the proposed new highway layout and expanded pedestrian areas, as well the location of parking spaces, cycle routes and delivery bays for businesses.
In particular, there will be an opportunity to see and comment on the types of materials being considered for pavements, kerbs and road surfaces, along with examples of new street furniture, such as benches and lamp posts.
As part of the detailed design phase for the Town Centre Improvement Scheme, we have already begun approaching businesses, traders and other stakeholders directly for their feedback on the latest detail designs. People will also be able to view the scheme designs and comment online from 14th November by visiting: www.rutland.gov.uk/oakhamtowncentre
The information gathered will then be used to help create a final detailed design, which will be presented to Full Council for approval in March 2018.
For more information about the regeneration of Oakham Town Centre, I would encourage you to visit: www.rutland.gov.uk/oakhamtowncentre

I’m a local historian (until recently I was living in the village) and I’m doing a series of military history talks at the Fox. The next one is 6th December and I didn’t know if you could include this?
Tickets are £5 and available at the bar. It starts at 7pm and the talk lasts about 1 hour with questions afterwards and a chance to view my collection of wwi artifacts.
Many thanks in advance,
Penny Burton
