Holiday Security
Please see below for latest security advice from PC Paul Le Pla
Most burglaries occur when there is no-one home, so whether you are leaving the house for a few minutes, the day or a fortnight, remember to shut and lock all your windows and doors.
By now most of us are in a habit of making sure windows and doors are closed and locked on our vehicles and houses when we leave them, but in the excitement of going away, we can sometimes forget. If you have locks on your windows and a burglar alarm installed to your property it is important you use them.
It is advised you always try to make your home appear occupied. Here are some steps you can take to ensure this:
Get a friend, neighbour or relative to keep an eye on your house or flat. Even the smallest of jobs such as collecting post from the letterbox, sweeping up leaves, putting dustbins out and even mowing your lawn, can make it seem as though someone is home.
Cancel deliveries of milk and newspapers while you are away, as a clutter of these around your front door, becomes a clear sign that nobody is home.
Invest in some automatic time switches, which switch lights and radios on and off at set times.
Never leave blinds or curtains closed as this makes it obvious the property is empty during the day.
Regards
Paul Le Pla

The Chater Choir Summer Concert will be performed on Saturday 16th July in Uppingham Parish Church at 7.30pm. Please click on the link below:
Room
Just a reminder to let you know that our next film is Room, and as usual it is on the second Wednesday of the month which is July 13th – no more Wimbledon catch-up to watch!
Room has been described as ‘a heartfelt, Golden Globe-winning performance powers this gripping drama’ (Guardian), and ‘it is hard to think of a movie adaptation of a book that feels truer and more loyal to its source than Room’. You can always check the trailer on our website (Uppinghamfilms.co.uk)
As ever, we will open the Town Hall doors at 7pm for a 7.30 start and tickets will be sold on the door (£5). There will be some home-baking and a warm welcome. Do feel free to bring a bottle and a cushion. We look forward to seeing you there. (And if you are an enthusiastic local and feel like spending a bit more time in the Town Hall, the Council is looking for a new member – contact the Town Clerk on townclerk@uppinghamtowncouncil.co.uk in the next couple of weeks).
Meantime, enjoy the touch of summer that is creeping in! Susie

Charity Air Rifle Competition
Take part in a Charity Air Rifle Competition this Sunday at Digby Farm in aid of the Royal British Legion
Hunter Field Target, also known as HFT is a popular target shooting sport that combines the air gun disciplines of target shooting with hunting scenarios. This is predominately an outdoor sport, shot with air rifles rated at a maximum of 12ft.lbf. The aim of the competition is to ‘knock down’ as many of the 30 targets as possible, which are placed in certain positions to simulate different hunting scenarios.
This Sunday 10th July, the UK Association of HFT is holding its Poppy Shoot, set in a field of Christmas trees at Digby Farm, Station Road. There are several spare rifles available to give an opportunity for anyone interested to come and have a go. The cost is £10 and all proceeds go to the Royal British Legion. The ground opens at 8am, and shooting starts at approximately 10.15am. There will be refreshments and toilet on site. Please find more details here

If you are interested, you must pre-book with Jason Ellis on 01780 722173 (leave a message, or ring early evening).

” THE VILLAGE PLAN” – Volunteers Needed
“THE VILLAGE PLAN”
The Parish Council has identified that to enable it to make strategic decisions about the development of the village and to manage its’ day to day business and meet the aspirations of villagers, it is important that a Village Plan be developed. The type of issues to be considered will include: environment; planning / development; transport and roads; recreational facilities; health; community issues; education; community safety; volunteers; senior citizens; youth / youth activities and any other issues considered relevant. We live in a beautiful place and our plan is likely to concentrate on how we can protect its character, influence any future proposed development and where appropriate enhance its facilities. We believe that our Village is a great place to live and would benefit from having a plan that identifies those things that must be protected or enhanced and those things that need to be improved for the greater good of the whole community. Over time we anticipate the Village Plan evolving into a Neighbourhood Plan, which includes some level statutory protection in terms of planning and development.
Researching, developing and writing such a plan is a major piece of work, that is likely to take a year or more to achieve. It needs to be undertaken by enthusiastic volunteers within the community and is not the sole responsibility of the Parish Council. We intend to enable everyone in the village to have a say and will actively encourage participation by all.
CAN YOU HELP?
We will need help in project management; the development of a questionnaire; analysis of findings and in conducting surveys and focus groups.
If you can help please contact: Paul Cummings (Tel: 720124 / pbgcummings@gmail.com) or Tim Smith (Tel: 360083 / tim.smith2818@btinternet.com)
Latest crime report for South Rutland
I set out below the report from PC Paul Le Pla of the Rutland South beat
Here is the latest beat report for the Rutland South neighbourhood.

14/6/16 – Theft FUMV – Empingham road, Ketton
17/6/16 – Theft FUMV (registration plate) – South View, Preston

20/6/16 – Burglary OTD – Wireless Hill, South Luffenham

Our current Problem solving Plans are –
1 – Conducting a burglary campaign in the whole of Rutland – targeting offenders, liaising with neighbouring forces. The last burglary dwelling on the south beat occurred on 15th May.

Poignant Reminder – the tenor bell tolls 100 times
As an act of commemoration at 7.30am this Friday morning, 1st July 2016, one half-muffled tenor bell will toll 100 times at St John the Baptist Church.
At precisely that time 100 years ago, a whistle was blown, the men went over the top of the dug outs at the Somme and walked towards enemy lines, starting the bloodiest battle that the British Army ever fought.
On that day alone, the 1st July 1916, 60,000 soldiers were killed, injured or declared missing.
The centenary of the battle provides an opportunity to commemorate the service and sacrifice of those who gave their lives at the Somme and to reflect on the human cost of war.
