Thursday 18^th August sees the Sail for Gold roadshow hit Rutland Sailing Club. Throughout the day there will be a number of activities all focused on the Olympic Sailing team

Non Club Members are welcome to get involved and free sailing taster sessions will be run between 1000 -1600 hrs for visitors.

There will be members of the Olympic squad offering land based and on the water masterclasses

Things start at 10am with taster sessions for visitors (registration starts at 9am in the Sailing Club Office)

There will be sailing, coaching and master-class sessions during the day

This will be followed by BBQ food which will be available to purchase at 1600hrs

Then at 17.00, the medal races start at Rio with the 49er first followed at 18.00 with the womens 49er FX. This will be streamed live and shown in various locations in the club for all to watch.

Our current Problem solving Plans are –

1 – Conducting a burglary campaign in the whole of Rutland – targeting offenders & liaising with neighbouring forces. The last burglary dwelling on the south beat was 14^th July.

2 – Targeting speeding motorists in Empingham. I have liaised with Rutland County Council & traffic calming measures have now been introduced either side of the village to help reduce speed. Speed enforcement has taken place & since May, 14 Traffic Offence Reports & 61 cautions have been issued. I have also began to start a new community speed watch in the village.

Perhaps better known as dog roundworm the embryonated eggs of which can be ingested by humans causing disease called toxocariasis. Young children are particularly at risk as it is picked up by ingestion of eggs from infected dog faeces. It is fortunately rare but rare things do happen. Dog mess is not only unpleasant but a potential source of an unpleasant infection.

A resident, upset that there was dog mess present where her children were playing on The Oval, contacted a Parish Councillor recently. There are a number of Poop Scoop bins provided and these are emptied on a regular basis. The vast majority of dog owners conscientiously clean up after their dogs and please continue to be vigilant when walking your dog. If users of The Oval see an infringement it would help if they point out that there are bins provided.

Most burglaries occur when there is no-one home, so whether you are leaving the house for a few minutes, the day or a fortnight, remember to shut and lock all your windows and doors.

By now most of us are in a habit of making sure windows and doors are closed and locked on our vehicles and houses when we leave them, but in the excitement of going away, we can sometimes forget. If you have locks on your windows and a burglar alarm installed to your property it is important you use them.

It is advised you always try to make your home appear occupied. Here are some steps you can take to ensure this:

Get a friend, neighbour or relative to keep an eye on your house or flat. Even the smallest of jobs such as collecting post from the letterbox, sweeping up leaves, putting dustbins out and even mowing your lawn, can make it seem as though someone is home.
Cancel deliveries of milk and newspapers while you are away, as a clutter of these around your front door, becomes a clear sign that nobody is home.
Invest in some automatic time switches, which switch lights and radios on and off at set times.
Never leave blinds or curtains closed as this makes it obvious the property is empty during the day.

Just a reminder to let you know that our next film is Room, and as usual it is on the second Wednesday of the month which is July 13th – no more Wimbledon catch-up to watch!

As ever, we will open the Town Hall doors at 7pm for a 7.30 start and tickets will be sold on the door (£5). There will be some home-baking and a warm welcome. Do feel free to bring a bottle and a cushion.  We look forward to seeing you there.
