The Oval – New Playground Equipment

Upon the completion of the housing development at Rosewood Close we received a payment in line with Section 106 of the Town and County Planning Act. This payment is known as a LEAP contribution, to be spent on a Locally Equipped Area for Play.

Last year after a number of months of consultation with local Parents and Children, along with members of the Parish Council an outline plan was developed for some additional pieces of equipment to be introduced to the Oval area, utilising the money that we had received.

The equipment we have chosen is:

· A timber skate ramp

· A zip-wire

· A basket swing

· A timber and rope climbing frame

The new items will compliment the current equipment, which we plan to redecorate this year. Replacement, slightly smaller goalposts will also be installed during this year. Upon completion of the work we will have facilities that span from young children through to teenagers for the first time.

Following a formal tender process, with 3 suppliers submitting detailed proposals we are now at the stage where we are in a position to appoint the supplier to carry out the work. At the next Parish Council Meeting we intend on discussing the final proposal with a view to voting to gain approval for the work to be undertaken.

Out of courtesy we have written to all residents of houses surrounding the Oval highlighting our plan as well as placing detail on the Village website. Mobile postal service reintroduced to North Luffenham

As reported in the local media recently, a mobile postal service is to begin in North Luffenham, tomorrow, Friday, 20th January 2017.

The vehicle will be parked adjacent to the BT pole and steps into the Oval in
Butt Lane, 12.30pm-1.30pm, then every Friday, at the same time.

According to the Rutland and Stamford Mercury, services offered will include:

special delivery
travel money
car tax
passport check and send
banking services for personal customers and small businesses
cash deposits and withdrawals
withdrawals using a Post Office card account
sending funds abroad using Moneygram
paying bills

North Luffenham is one of several local communities to benefit from this mobile postal service.

With an increasing number of reports stating that Gardening is good for the mind, body and soul, why not come to our informal meetings where we welcome speakers on a variety of subjects in horticulture!

This month we look forward to the return of Stuart Dixon, a seasoned speaker who is a Horticultural lecturer, writer and broadcaster, featuring on BBC Radio Nottingham for the gardening show.

Our current Neighbourhood Priorities’ are:

1 – Tackling crime in Barrowden village due to the recent spike in crime there. We are carrying out high visibility patrols and liaising with surrounding forces sharing intelligence and information. Since we began this priority, we have had no further crimes in the village, which is great news.

2 – Targeting hare coursing along the A47 corridor from Uppingham to Tixover & parts of the north beat area from Langham towards the A1. Last month, members of the public reported to police numerous reports of hare coursing. As a result several people and vehicles have been identified as taking part in this illegal activity.

I would encourage you all to be vigilant and report any persons you suspect as acting suspicious. Take note of any vehicle and registration number they are in and ring the police on 101.

By all means, let me know and your Neighbourhood coordinators, but ring 101 in the first instance, so the information can be reported and acted upon straightaway.
