The UKAHFT English Open is being hosted by local shooting club Misfits HFTC at North Luffenham tomorrow morning.
Hunter field target (HFT) is a target shooting sport derived from the air gun disciplines of field target shooting and hunting. Primarily an outdoor sport, shot with UK legal air rifles, a typical HFT course is made up of 30 lanes, with each lane comprising of a peg and a metal “knock down” target placed in a position to simulate a hunting scenario. The peg marks the shooting spot and the shooter must touch the peg with part of his or her body or gun for the shot to count.
90 entrants from across the country will compete against each other on this new challenging course, which comprises of 30 targets ranging from 8 yds to 45yds distance, in a rural setting.
Misfits HFTC were unable to use their usual venue near Brigstick, Corby and so were offered the use of Station field, just above the Linecross car park.
The competition is due to run from approximately 10am to 1pm. Spectators are welcome in the specially marked areas.

The FR-IR Annual Bottle Tombola 2015 – The Rutland County Show
Firstly, please accept our apologies for this rather impersonal but still extremely sincere thank you to you all, for being so generous with the bottle collection in North Luffenham. The response from you was phenomenal this year, thank you so much for the effort you put into the Bottle Tombola Collection for FR-IR in your community. And a particular thank you to the Fox, for acting as a drop off point!
Our bottles were down this year but we still managed to total £4000, which is a significant sum. But the Tombola gave us an important presence at the Show, therefore increasing the awareness of this still new charity.
So it was well worth it!
The Rutland Show 2015 meant we celebrated our 1st anniversary and thanks to our wonderful support, FR-IR is already going from strength to strength. We are now funding 2 advisors at the Citizens Advice in Oakham. The demand for this service has far outweighed our expectation and the post is now full-time with 2 advisors sharing the demand.
So our funding is even more vital than before ……….
We hope that in 2016 we will be able to find a sponsor for our marquee and for our trade stand pitch. We estimate this sum to be about £1000 so if any of you have any ideas of who to approach, please let us know!
An extra big thank you to those Collectors who also helped on the day…volunteering in the marquee is such a fun way of spending time raising money….and getting to know the team! Your time and your enthusiasm were much appreciated by the Fundraising Committee.
We hope that we will be able to call upon you again next year for the village collection. It has been so well proved that the personal touch gains more rewards…so please bear that in mind, if you have the time. Also, a number of collectors issue their cards with their Parish Magazines, so if you let me know your deadline date, we can get the collection cards to you, to save your foot work!
This year we failed to have a successful collection in Uppingham, Oakham and South Luffenham…..so any ideas for that, will be really helpful, as well.
Sincere thanks to you on behalf of the Fundraising Committee for your continued commitment and support, helping to increase the profile of FR-IR and to raise such a magnificent sum of money.
Kind regards
Trish Ruddle

Your monthly reminder that next week, being the second Wednesday of the month, is Film Night – hurrah! This month it is that long awaited film, Effie Gray. Usual place, usual time, usual price, usual welcome.
Uppingham Town Hall: 8th July. Commences 7.30pm.
I have been advised by our Community Police Officer that there are thieves operating in our area of Rutland and all residents are asked to be extra vigilant about security. This is especially important during this hot spell of weather when we, of necessity, open windows etc.
The Parish Council have been made aware of a number of incidents involving inconsiderate motorists driving too fast on Butt Lane. The lane, is adjacent to the Oval recreation ground which is used by Children playing, dog walkers and parents taking children to school. Butt Lane itself does not have a pavement so we ask all drivers to take extra care and reduce speed.
On Sunday 21st June (this weekend!) some of our lovely female staff will be taking part in the Pretty Muddy Race for Life at Peterborough Showground. They have been limbering up, exercising hard and rolling in mud, in preparation for the big event and would be very grateful if you could support this worthwhile fundraiser to beat cancer.
Gemma Cutmore has organised the ladies into an excitable group, aptly name the ‘Muddy Misfits’ so joining her are Mrs Lister, Mrs Hart, Mrs Hall, Mrs Stanfield, Mrs Bingham, Mrs Fox, Miss Plant and a few daughters have also been roped in!
The Muddy Misfits have already made fantastic headway towards raising their target goal of £800 but would like to do better…..if you have time, come along and support them at Peterborough Showground at 10.45am, pledge a donation at https://www.justgiving.com/muddy-misfits2015/ or drop in your spare coins at the school office – hopefully they can smash their target! Photos to follow!
Thanks
Amanda Hall.
The annual village trip is to Skegness this year, on Wednesday 24th June.
We will be leaving from Church street at 9.15am and leaving Skegness at 4.30pm to arrive back in the village at approx 6.15 pm.
This is a free trip, open to everyone in North Luffenham. There are still a few seats left so if you would like to come along ring Evelyn on 720528
In the next few days the following information will be delivered on a leaflet to each household in the village along with a ‘fridge magnet’.
“We hope that it never happens to us but suddenly a person collapses and perhaps you are the only one there. How to get help?
The village has a Village Emergency Telephone System (VETS) and if you dial
01780 322070
one of the volunteers, who has had training in the use of the defibrillator, will be contacted quickly and bring the defibrillator to you.
When you dial 01780 322070 you will hear the following message:
“Welcome to VETS. In a moment you will be connected to one of the village helpers. Please state clearly the assistance you require.”
Enclosed is a ‘fridge magnet’ with the VETS number.”

What better way to spend a summer’s evening than to come along to our next film on June 8th – doors open at 7pm as ever. Our film this month is the highly acclaimed Birdman, starring Michael Keaton. Best described as a black comedy, it has won a number of awards and is absolutely worth your £5. Arriving at John O’Groats reminded me of the Alfred Wainwright quote in his beautifully illustrated ‘Pennine Way Companion’ (a guide that I used 39 years ago for that long distance trail). Referring to arriving at the end of the walk he says, “There is no brass band to greet you. There is no body waiting to pin a medal on your chest. There may be people about but they will not take any notice of you. Nobody cares that you have walked, and just this minute, completed the Pennine Way. You will not get your name in the papers, not be interviewed by television. No, the satisfaction you feel is intensely personal and cannot be shared. The sense of achievement is yours alone simply because you have earned it alone….. You did not do it to earn memories, but memories you have and in abundance for the rest of your life.” Well I have to say that these words did strike a cord as a stood at the edge looking out to sea 1178.49 miles from the start 34 days earlier.

Another highlight has been crossing the 1000 mile mark since leaving Lands End (it happened a few miles beyond Dundonnell on the way to Ullapool near the access path I once took a couple of years ago to climb the beautiful mountain called An Teallach) The 1000 mile mark was in itself a highlight but It also reminded me, as if I needed to be reminded, of just how much of the ride was in Scotland itself having crossed the border into Scotland at 604 miles.

It struck me this evening as I sheltered from the unseasonally strong winds and rain that since crossing over into Scotland I had cycled up more than 5900 metres along the roads of western Scotland. Kilimanjaro is 5895m!

Since I left William and Gail at Dumfries the weather conditions have been a constant source of frustration! Wet Wet Wet for the majority of Tuesday which combined with a strong side wind made progress painfully slow. I arrived in Cumnock and dived in to a B & B with a drying room and took stock.
