Dear all,
I have been contacted by a local resident who received a letter purporting to be from a Chinese bank about a possible relative who has died leaving $ 18.5 million. As you would expect, they wanted him to get in touch with them and open a bank account etc.
THIS IS A SCAM!!!! Unfortunately, it is a common one.
Please send out alerts, warning people of this.
I will inform Trading Standards of this.
Regards
Paul Le Pla

I have now turned the corner and am now in the home straight in terms of fund raising – I’ve raised £8000 of my target of £8644 – (£8644 representing £1 for every orphan who is registered with the Mango Tree Orphan Support Programme).
I would like to thank the very kind supporters of my ride in the village who took an interest in the ride, and helped me towards that target. I am especially grateful to Steve Marson who gave me so much technical support and advice before I set off!
The Mango Tree has been blessed by a film director who is a keen supporter and who went out to Kenya to visit the work of the charity and made a film for us.
The aviation enthusiasts amongst you will be aware of the last flying Vulcan bomber, known as XH558.
This has been kept flying for the last few years by a private charity, based at Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster.
2015 is the last year it will be able to fly, due to the difficulties in continuing the required support for a complex aircraft.
The Vulcan will be undertaking a “last hurrah” flight around the UK this weekend. The Southern loop of this flight will take place on Sunday, 11th October, and will include Rutland Water as a waypoint on the trip around the country.
There will be no display as such, but it will be overhead the reservoir for a period of time
Timings are still to be confirmed, but further details can be found on the Vulcan Trusts website.
BACKGROUND
At a meeting of Parish Councillors held on 29th Jun following the PC elections, it was agreed that the continuing nurturing and development of ‘community spirit’ within the village should be an important part of the PC’s role. It was considered that one way of achieving this was to hold a ‘fun’ event, possibly annually, at which all villagers could be involved. Every Group/Club active in the village or impacting upon village life would be invited to participate. This would help to foster village spirit; a sense of ‘belonging’ and an increased awareness of what the village offered.
We are now looking for volunteers to join a Committee to discuss how best to take this initiative forward. The likely date for the event will be Saturday 11th June, which would coincide with HM The Queen’s Official 90th Birthday Celebrations. If you would like to be part of this initiative please give Paul Cummings a call: 01780 720124
Results from Annual Autumn Show 2015
The North Luffenham Garden Club held its 17th Annual Autumn Show on Sunday 13th September in the village Community Centre and school hall
Last year was a bumper year, and we knew it would be a hard act to follow. Indeed there were fewer entrants (32 in total) and entries (270) overall, but the
hall was still filled with a glorious array of fresh and home produce, flowers and crafts.
Village shows such as ours are an important tradition both as a community event and as a celebration of the traditional pastimes and skills in growing, making
and baking. Jim Bolton, the Club’s president echoed this sentiment in his speech, emphasising the importance of passing on and encouraging these skills in the
younger generations.
It is fair to say we were deeply disappointed by the lack of children’s entries. However the boost in popularity of flower arrangements continued with the new
prize of an RHS Grenfell Medal was awarded for a second year, and for the first time we also awarded the RHS Banksian medal for most points won in the home-
grown fruit and vegetables categories.
Hopefully some people will have been encouraged to have a go themselves next year – ANYONE CAN ENTER NOT JUST MEMBERS, and we can drum up some enthusiasm from
the younger generation. We would like to make some changes to the children’s classes and would be grateful for suggestions at any time.
A big thank you to everyone who made the effort to put in entries, and particularly to the Garden Club committee and a small army of volunteers who helped the
day run so smoothly.
Katy Ellis
Chairperson

Chair’s Report 2014/2015
Another year has gone by and we again find ourselves reviewing the carpet bowls season. I won’t steal the team captain’s thunder with comments of league performances but I will say the results at the end of the year surprised me and were not at all what I expected.
We welcome a couple of new players, Tim and Simon – Simon has now discovered what his left hand is really for, as he is right-handed at everything else. Tim is showing promise as a good bowler and I hope both Simon and Tim will enter an open competition and join in with the league teams next season.
The Monday evenings have been well attended with a wide range of ages and abilities, we are still the envy of the carpet bowls world for our welcoming attitude to all age groups, I can’t think of another club that has such a good ethic and is able to gain members.
Two of our players have been picked for the Hertfordshire County team and have helped that county go from a regular fifth place in the East Area to second and gain their highest ever total of points. The team picked a player of the season in a secret ballot and I am proud to say that award went to Thomas Ellis.
I would like to thank Linda for the tea/coffee/biscuits and opening up every week, Bill for keeping us solvent, Sylvia for keeping the paperwork in order. Of course the team captains for making sure every fixture is played and players get to all the games. And all of our members for the jokes and fun we have through the year.
I will end this rambling report by wishing you all luck for the coming season and hope that we can raise ourselves again to perform well and maybe attend a few competitions.
